We feel truly privileged to join this lively gathering where we can share our special Melanesian culture and the values we all hold dear. We are one people, one spirit, and one Melanesia. At Victoria West Papua Association Inc, our heart is in building a strong, supportive community by keeping our traditions alive and standing together. We believe in sticking by one another with honesty and fairness, working every day to make sure our stories are shared. We want to offer a kind, safe place where everyone can belong and honor their roots.

Remembering
Biak Massacre
In July 1998, on Biak Island, peaceful West Papuan demonstrators raised the Morning Star flag and were met with brutal violence by security forces. Numerous civilians were killed, tortured, or disappeared during this tragic event. This took place over a period of six days from July 1st to July 6th. Today, the Biak Massacre remains a somber and powerful symbol of the ongoing struggle for human rights and self-determination. West Papuans in Melbourne also gather to commemorate the lives lost 28 years ago.
